Champions For Learning Receives $20,000 Grant From The Collier Community Foundation

The Education Foundation of Collier County – Champions For Learning is pleased to announce it has received a $20,000 grant from the Collier Community Foundation. These funds will support the Take Stock in Children Program, an academically focused mentoring program that guides students toward successful completion of high school and college enrollment.

The key component of the Take Stock in Children program involves matching newly enrolled students with their Champions For Learning mentor, with whom they will meet regularly during the school year. Mentors provide guidance, motivation, support, and role-modeling to grow our students’ life skills and help them prepare for postsecondary success. Students must remain in the program throughout high school and graduate to earn a two-year, 60-credit hours Florida Prepaid College Foundation scholarship award to mitigate financial barriers in enrolling in college and/or accessing post-secondary education.

“Champions For Learning is thrilled to be awarded grant funding through Collier Community Foundation for our Take Stock in Children Program,” said Barbara Evans, President and CEO of Champions For Learning. “Their grant makes a difference in the lives of our students, many of whom are the first in their families to consider enrolling in college, by empowering them to graduate from high school in strong academic standing and be prepared for postsecondary success.”

The Collier Community Foundation awards annual grants through a competitive application and review process. Selected organizations receive grant dollars from the Foundation’s discretionary funds. These funds were gifted by donors who believe in the Community Foundation’s ability to mobilize resources to address the community’s greatest needs.
