“As a mentor, Jack always showed up. He was always supportive. He made me feel like he actually cared,” says Jerry, a 2015 Take Stock in Children graduate. “He’s honestly impacted my life so much in such a short amount of time. We’ve only known each other for two years and I feel like he’s changed my whole life.”
Many students, like Jerry, still need the extra guidance to successfully graduate high school and have an opportunity to earn a postsecondary education. Champions For Learning needs mentors and volunteers to give this guidance, and has many opportunities available for a variety of time commitments.
Mentors meet with the same student weekly during lunch on the student’s school campus (minimum of 15 times during the school year). For community members who are interested in making a difference, but are looking for a short-term commitment, Champions For Learning is also seeking volunteers for College Goal Sunday on February 21, 2016, at Golden Gate High School and Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Immokalee High School and Palmetto Ridge High School.
